Butte County offers a variety of outdoor activities, from water sports, to museums and hiking, horse and bicycle trails. Feather Falls is 640 feet high, making it the 6th highest in the United States.

The largest gold nugget was found in Magalia, four miles north of Paradise. Nearby Lake Oroville offers abundant camping, boating and fish opportunities.

Butte County offers rich fertile valley, rolling hills, and volcanic peaks. There are steep canyons carved by many streams and rivers. Much of the county is rural and preserved by nearly 60,000 acres of parkland and wildlife reserves within the county.
